Norway is not in the EU customs union: what that means at the Swedish border.
Norway is a third country for customs
Norway belongs to the EEA but not to the EU customs union. Goods moving between Norway and Sweden are declared to customs in both directions. A Norwegian company that acts as importer, exporter or declarant in Sweden needs an EORI number.
Typical cases
- Deliveries to Swedish customers where the Norwegian seller acts as importer (e.g. DDP terms)
- Own transports across the border with goods to be declared
- Temporary import of equipment for assignments in Sweden
- Online shops shipping to consumers in Sweden and the EU
Do you always need your own number?
Not always. If your Swedish customer is the importer and declares the goods, their EORI number is used. Ask your forwarder who acts as declarant before you apply.
